Mammoth Skiers Form Trails Organization: MLTPA

The heavy iron-and-stone gate on Ranch Road in Mammoth Lakes, California was once symbolic of the battle for access between public land users and private landowners; in this case, backcountry skiers versus a luxury homeowners association.

Today, however, the gate represents a success story of compromise and grassroots advocacy. Mammoth Lakes Trails and Public Access (MLTPA) is currently working with the community on the most comprehensive trails system since Dave Mc Coy founded Mammoth Mountain Ski Area – The Mammoth Lakes Trails System.

“Trails is our core,” John Wentworth, president and founder of MLTPA said. “We are connecting people with their love for skiing and every other outdoor recreational activity.”
