The ancient Inca citadel of Machu Picchu is perhaps one of the most popular travel destinations in the world. While those who crave more undiscovered gems may be hesitant to join the crowds, even tourist-wary travelers will be utterly astonished seeing the 15thcentury Inca archaeological site for the first time. A trip to the nearby city of Cusco and the surrounding Sacred Valley is well worth the effort—no amount of quality photography can capture the wonderment of the region.
